Mercury-Free Composite Fillings

Now you can replace any ugly, old, worn-out cracked amalgam black fillings with mercury-free tooth-colored composite fillings. These tooth-colored composite fillings are a special type of resin that is bonded in and then light cured with a special ultra-violet light. These bonded fillings restore cavities, chips, gaps and cracks found in teeth. Over time, traditional silver-mercury amalgam fillings expand and contract with changes in temperature in the mouth and actually act as a wedge over time pushing the tooth apart.

Composite fillings are bonded in and actually pull the tooth together forming a stronger restoration for the tooth. At the same time the composite fillings have many tooth shades to choose from so exact color matches can be made to match the color of the tooth being restored. When completely restored, the tooth looks natural. The tooth-colored filling blends in and cannot be seen.

Also, when restoring a tooth with composite fillings, the bonding solution used also acts as a desensitizing medium. So after the tooth has been restored, there is little to no post operative sensitivity to cold and hot so often associated with the traditional silver-mercury amalgam fillings being placed in the past. No longer experience the feeling of chewing on "tin-foil" when chewing gum.

If you speak for a living and are constantly in the public eye, then having a mouth full of black amalgam fillings can be a distraction. For cosmetic reasons these black amalgams can be replaced with tooth-colored composite resin fillings. This of course, is only upon a patient's request.
